I’m sure most of you all can relate to this, but I wake up every morning to over a dozen local deal emails in my inbox. A few weeks ago, The Capitol Deal ran a deal for brunch at Local 16! You could pay $15 for one entree and unlimited mimosas or bloody marys! (A $30 value.) I was SO excited, because a.) I’ve been really wanting to get into the brunch scene from reading this awesome blog about DC brunching, and b.) Local 16 is located on U Street, right near where my old roomie Abigail lives… and she is the perfect brunch companion!
The coupon was so hot that it sold out quickly, and Abigail didn’t get a chance to get the deal in time. Not a problem, because as soon as we walked in the door, we were informed that you can “like” Local 16 on Facebook and get the same deal! Perfect!
We showed up at 11am on a Saturday, when brunch begins (it goes until 4pm). It was also Halloween weekend, so the place was decorated with cobwebs, skulls, etc. The atmosphere felt very festive, and it was kind of fun being served by a knight! However, I must mention that there was a very disturbing statue of a baby eating its foot by the entrance… not the most appetizing Halloween decor choice, in our opinion.
We were given a special meal to order from, since we were dining with deals. Lots of choices though! You can even get a breakfast pizza!
Abigail chose the Omelet (Parmesan, Tomato, Onion, Pepper, Home Fries) and I opted for the Eggs Benedict with Salmon and Home Fries. We decided the meals were okay. Abigail gave her dish a 6 out of 10. I might give mine a 7.5. I thought the eggs were cooked perfectly, but we both agreed the meals were overall a little bland. Still yummy and satisfying though!
The highlights of the experience were the yummy mimosas and the relaxed atmosphere. The mimosas tasted deliciously well-balanced in their OJ & bubbly proportions. Our knight waiter kept our drinks filled through the whole 2 hours that we lounged there. I think anything bottomless should be that way… you shouldn’t have to ask, you should just keep getting refills!
Even after we got our check, another waiter (a skeleton, I think?) asked if he could put a pitcher of mimosas on our table! “Okay!” we said. We barely got through half of that pitcher, but it was very generous and fun! I am new to brunching in this area, but Local 16 was really all that I was wanting for a good brunch… delicious mimosas, decent food, a low-key atmosphere, and a friendly wait staff. Thanks, Local 16!
