It is a widely-known fact that I am obsessed with Trader Joe’s. In my experience, it is the best grocery store ever. The wine is great, and very reasonable. They carry fun things like prosciutto, but for a very good price. There are amazing snacks, with anything you could want covered in chocolate! Also, I don’t know if I’m wrong about this, but I kind of assume that everything in the store is organic. I could go on and on…
In the past, with my previous job and then with the free time before my current job, I’ve been able to jet all over the place and take advantage of Trader Joe’s locations all over the Northern VA area. I have been to the ones in Fairfax, Reston, Bailey’s Crossroads, Foggy Bottom, and Falls Church. Now, I’m in a new job, and am not able (and have not been wanting) to venture out far all of the time since I’m living and working in Arlington. This situation had the potential to be the death of my love for Trader Joe’s.
EXCEPT that a new Trader Joe’s has just opened up in Clarendon! I could not be more excited!!! The monumental occurrence happened this past Friday, and I will also mention that the public found out about it just days beforehand. (There had been a lot of buildup, and a narrowing down of the exact day… but the specific news was very recent!)
Naturally, since I’d had plans with two of my best friends, Lauren and Julianne, for awhile that night, I decided to hijack our agenda and turn the evening into a Trader Joe’s Launch Party!! The night became a three-person party to honor the event! I bought a bunch of snacks beforehand in Foggy Bottom, then decorated our apartment walls with TJ’s reusable bags and fun multi-colored lights. After enjoying a cheap bottle of Trader Joe’s wine, along with a dinner of spinach & artichoke dip, hummus, 7-layer bean dip, salsa, tortilla chips, brie, apricots, dark chocolate-covered sunflower seeds, and dark chocolate-covered cranberries (all from TJ’s!), we went off to the store!
I would be thrilled with a rinky dink Trader Joe’s close to our residence, but this particular store is the most beautiful one I have ever seen! It is spacious, with lots of cash registers and gorgeous displays. The samples were stellar, and when I returned the next day (obviously had to go back immediately), there was even a man singing and playing his guitar for some live entertainment. My favorite part of the store is the dairy section, where fake metro sign posts display subjects like “eggs” and “cheese” and such. There is also a Clarendon metro sign post in the wine area! So great. I should have taken pictures, but this is the kind of sign post I’m talking about.
I bought a few things on my first visit, including an awesome set of four sea salts! I intended for it to be a gift, but that is no longer happening. I’ll buy another set. I already owned three different sea salts from TJ’s, so here is our collection now (the set I bought included the four on the right):
There is no other way to end this entry, but to say… THIS IS SO EXCITING!! One thing is for sure: I have resolved for Chris & I to base our future moving decisions on where the Trader Joe’s are!
