For quite a long time now, I have been itching to try out the Lobster Truck, by Red Hook Lobster Pound. I discovered this food truck at the LivingSocial Best of Washington Party this past July. Chris & I tried little samples at their booth, and the rolls were amazing! I wish I had a better picture from the event, but this is all I could find:
When I started my new job in Rosslyn, my chances of having an opportunity to visit the truck increased tremendously! In order to find out where The Lobster Truck will be each day, you have to follow Red Hook Lobster DC on Twitter. I was so excited to see a tweet during Thanksgiving week that they were going to be in Rosslyn on the day before Thanksgiving! This was perfect timing for a first visit, because I’ve heard that the wait can be almost an HOUR-long for this truck! Obviously, not very many people work on the day before Thanksgiving, so I assumed that there would be no line at all!
I could not control my excitement, and took a sneaky iPhone picture from across the street:
As expected, the line was nonexistent. I approached the truck, and learned that you can pick between two types of rolls: Connecticut (butter-based) or Maine (mayo-based). I opted for Connecticut this time, but will definitely have to try the Maine-style roll as well. The roll was just as amazing as I remembered from that party sample! The lobster tasted so fresh, with that perfect firm-but-juicy texture. I tried to savor the roll, but in a matter of minutes, it disappeared! Of course, I was well-prepared, and had brought my camera to work in order to always remember the occasion.
Well done, Red Hook Lobster Pound! I wish your rolls weren’t so pricey ($15!), but they sure are worth it!
