Since Arlington laws prohibit having grills on apartment balconies, Chris & I ruled out grilling as a dinner preparation option long ago. We’ve mostly just stuck to our handy countertop Foreman. There are two grills down by our pool, but for some reason, we never thought to use them for ourselves… until recently.
After over a year of living at this residence, we threw our first pool party/grill-out and took advantage of these grills. It turns out that they’re actually pretty nice! While we were drinking sangria and eating away, another resident walked up and asked if he could use the grill. Chris said, “Sure,” and as we continued to chat, I watched this guy grill himself a fairly sizable steak. He sat off to the side looking at his phone, then a few minutes later, he casually stood up and flipped it over. The steak looked amazing, with perfect sear marks and a sizzling exterior. After it was done, this guy collected his things and took the steak back inside to eat at his place.
I know this might be a little mundane to read, but it blew Chris & I’s minds. In one evening, not only did we realize we had some nice grills on hand for a party, but we also realized that we could use these grills on the random night just for ourselves! I can’t believe it took us over a year to figure this out!
In honor of our recent discovery, I want to share a recipe for “Hard Chargin’ Blue Cheese Stampede Burgers.” These burgers have blue cheese in the middle of the meat and are flavored with tabasco sauce! (Although in our case, we’ve been using hot jalapeno sauce.) Our friend Anthony made these burgers for a tailgate one time and they were a huge hit. When we were planning our cookout, Chris knew we had to get the recipe to share. We enjoyed the burgers so much at our party that we ended up making more just for the two of us a few nights later:
Apparently, this burger recipe comes from a cookbook called Marlboro Cook Like a Man Cookbook: The Last Male Art Form: Grill it, Smoke it, BBQ the Heck out of It. Chris was pretty thrilled when he learned about that!
Check out this mouth-watering picture on Pinterest as well. Happy grilling!
