The DC area breathed a collective sigh of relief this weekend. Spring finally arrived. I spent the weekend beginning moving preparations – not especially noteworthy or spring-worthy, but I made up for it all yesterday when I walked to work, ate lunch outside, dined at Screwtop after work, then walked home. I was attempting to squeeze as much out of the beautiful weather as possible! I know we are all trying to do this. Winter will soon be a distant memory, and next we will have to tackle the drenching humidity…
Trader Joe’s may be the main Arlington place that I reference, but Screwtop is a close second in my life hot spots. (I actually went there four times during a recent week!) A few coworker girls and I rushed over after work yesterday evening, and we were thrilled to be able to grab a patio table. The pollen is already getting to us (we are not complaining – we have been dying for this weather!), but some cheese plus carbs did the trick. I could eat here every night!
After a round of happy hour sparking white, we tried an interested grape: Cabernet Sauvignon without the skins (so a white wine). It was a little like Sauvignon Blanc, but had an interesting twist in the aftertaste which definitely evoked a Cab.
For food, I felt like it was MVP night. All my favorites! We first selected a cheese plate containing a creamy brie, the Beemster XO, and a red pepper Italian cheese. Perfect. Then, we moved on to the grilled cheese sliders and mac ‘n’ cheese trio (containing ramekins of blue cheese, red pepper cheese, and truffle cheese mac). What could be better?
Screwtop is my happy place. Welcome, warm weather!
