Quick shout-out to Toscana Grill in the Courthouse Plaza! Now under New Jersey management, the restaurant is going by the slogan “Spaghetti Ya Face!” The staff has been working hard to get the word out and the diners in. Chris and I went on a date there forever ago, and I can still remember the stuffy atmosphere and the lack of personality. We were not planning on going back. Even earlier this year, we would often comment on the empty patio tables as we walked by, a stark difference to nearby Velocity 5 and Fireworks Pizza. One week, however, I noticed the restaurant was shut down for renovations and I soon learned that their own staff was transforming the place to rebrand it into something new.
Now, a staff member is out and about passing out bruschetta every evening as I walk home from the bus/metro. (I wonder if she’ll stop letting me have samples after awhile!) The patio is filling up, a great sign in this gorgeous weather, and people seem to be checking out the changes! We stopped by the other day and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We tried out the Jersey Pizza (sausage and pepperoni) and the Calamari Fra Diablo Pizza (with spicy marinara and mozzarella). The latter was probably the spiciest pizza I’ve ever had, but it was delicious all the same! You should just be prepared to listen more than talk when you eat it… and grab some tissues too… Toscana Grill has some great specials running throughout the week. For example, Monday is “Pasta Monday,” with all pasta dishes starting at $6.95. The staff is working hard to make the restaurant a new and great experience. I encourage you to stop by!
