Fall is here! Is it time for cold weather hearty food yet? As I’ve mentioned before, Chris and I are a part of a monthly “wine night” with a few other couples, and it is always a fun, informal food and wine event. We pick a varietal and/or region, each couple brings a bottle, we sample them all in a blind tasting, and then announce a winner. We also plan ahead of time to bring appetizers, a main course, and a dessert… and it’s a bonus when our contributions pair well with the wine of the night!
Earlier this year, Cabernet Franc was the grape. As I was Google-ing different food pairings, lamb came up again and again. I was excited to find this lamb meatballs recipe since it can be finished off and served in a crockpot! Fairly simple prep, and not a hassle to transport at all.
The meatballs were a huge hit! The crushed red pepper adds a nice kick. I did not use turkey meat since I always feel a little funny about combining meats. I’m tempted to find other ways to use this recipe, though it may be a bit intense to use the whole sauce over pasta. It’s so rich!
